Redcliffe Jetty Seawall Rehabilitation

 

CLIENT: MORETON BAY REGIONAL COUNCIL

WORKS COMPLETED: March 2019

WORK SCOPE:

  • Survey of the existing seawall to monitor movements during construction;;

  • Demolition of the face of the seawall to remove the concrete suffering from chloride attack;

  • An abrasive blast of the existing reinforcing and coating system application;

  • Supply & Installation of new reinforcing like-for-like to existing;

  • Supply and install galvanic anodes to the existing reinforcing;

  • Shotcrete high strength, non-shrink grout to the surface of wall;

  • Application of coating system to the finished concrete surface.

 

 

 

Demolition of Wall:

  • The existing concrete wall, built in the early 1900's, was beginning to fail primarily due to chloride attack. 

  • The face of the wall, approx 120mm,  was removed to 20mm behind the reinforcing.

  • All reinforcing reduced to 60% of its original thickness was removed and replaced. The reinforcing that remained was sandblasted and coated.

 

 

Reinforcing & Concreting Wall

  • The new reinforcing was installed and fastened to the wall along the existing reinforcing alignment;

  • All reinforcing reduced to 60% of its original thickness was removed and replaced. The reinforcing that remained was sandblasted and coated.

  • Galvanic Anodes were used on the existing reinforcing as a means of protection.

  • Two coating systems were applied to the wall on completion of the grout curing period to assist with the resistance to chloride attack.
